Two youth go missing from Awantipora in south Kashmir

Families appeals them to return home

Pulwama: Two friends from Chersoo Awantipora area of Pulwama district have gone missing since August 07 even as their families have been repeatedly requesting them to return back.
An official said that two friends who have gone missing include Shakir Ul Jabbar (18) son of Mohammad Jabbar Sofi and Owais Farooq (22) son of Farooq Ahmad Allaie both residents of Kadlabal Chersoo which is around 1 kilometer from Awantipora have been reported missing.
Shakir according to his family members after having lunch on 07 August told them that he is going to play cricket in a nearby ground where he usually used to go.
“However, he didn’t return back. We contacted him but his phone was switched off and later in the evening we contacted all relatives and his friends but couldn’t find him. We later approached the police and lodged a missing report,” said one of his family members.
Shakir after passing his 12th class examination joined coaching classes at Parrypora Srinagar to prepare for NEET, from where he returned in March after the Covid outbreak, they said.
Meanwhile, another youth Owais according to his family is also missing since August 07 and after failing to trace him anywhere they too have lodged a missing report at police station Awantipora.
“After passing his 12th class examination, he left his studies and was now driving a tractor to earn a living,” his relatives said.
Notably, both the families have been repeatedly asking the two missing youth to return back to their families.
The families have even requested militant organizations to spare their children and allow them to return back if they have joined them.
Meanwhile, a senior police official confirmed that two missing reports have been lodged at police station Awantipora.
“It would be premature to say whether they have joined any militant group or not,” he said, when asked about the possibility of the youth joining the militant ranks.
