Flash floods hit Kangan village, Sgr-Sonamarg road blocked

Kangan, August 9: Heavy rains in the afternoon of Sunday triggered flash floods in Kullan Gund area of Ganderbal district.
Reports said that due to a cloudburst followed by torrential rains flash floods were caused in a tributary due to which several residential houses were inundated and also the Srinagar-Sonamarg road got blocked for several hours.
An official said that a flash flood triggered by heavy rains occurred in a Nallah at Shah Mohalla Kullan.
“There was no loss of life or property however the Sgr-Sonamarg road got blocked due to the flash flood,” the official said.
He said that they have pressed in machinery to clear the road at an earliest.
Dozens of vehicles got stranded on either side of the road as there was flood like situation in the Nullah.
Meanwhile, the residents said that there was flood like situation in the Nallah adjacent to Shah Mohalla Kullan creating fear psychosis among the residents.
They said that RDD and BEACON Officials were many times informed to provide a concrete wall on both sides of Nallah however, they ignored the pleas raised by the locals.
