A changed world order
The dependence of various world powers on each other for trade, commerce and support in times of political and other needs has made the present world order highly complex.
We are witnessing increased involvement of nations with each other-overtly or covertly-on various issues including elections when various powers have been known to support a particular candidate in order to secure his win.
These measures are witnessed so that country’s expectation on a particular candidate to win is secured so that his appointment will prove fruitful for the country in the long run.
Presently we are witnessing that this has been reported by the US intelligence officials as well that Russia is using a variety of measures to denigrate Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden ahead of the November election in the United States and that individuals linked to the Kremlin are boosting President Donald Trump’s reelection bid.
US officials also believe China does not want Trump to win a second term and has accelerated its criticism of the White House, expanding its efforts to shape public policy in America and to pressure political figures seen as opposed to Beijing’s interests.
The interference by other countries is a pointed declaration by the US intelligence community linking the Kremlin to efforts to get Trump reelected, a sensitive subject for a president who has rejected intelligence agency assessments that Russia tried to help him in 2016.
It also connects Moscow’s disapproval of Biden to his role as vice president in shaping Obama administration policies supporting Ukraine, an important US ally, and opposing Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Many foreign actors are increasingly showing their preference for who wins the election in any country, which they express through a range of overt and private statements. Though covert influence efforts are rarer, but it is increasingly becoming a reality in today’s world.
The happenings of this sort may not be that bold and forthcoming in various south Asian nations but such activities cannot be ruled out. The present twist to the elections and who rules the country has shown to us that a new world order is settling down and now onwards countries cannot even fight domestic elections in complete isolation.
Though this is highly debatable as to whether the emerging trends are good for the world or it can have a negative effect on the people’s rights to secure anybody’s candidature for providing him a chance to govern or lead them.
We also need to take this development quite seriously as the people’s mandate about who actually rules them can also prove to be a myth as at the end of the day it may no longer be
