People demand drinking water, register protests
Anantnag: Inhabitants of Palpora, Ara Koshipora and Damhaal area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday alleged that the Jal Shakti Department (Public Health Engineering PHE) has failed to provide adequate water supply to their areas.
The residents accused the department of ignoring their constant plights as unscheduled water supply is being provided in the area.
Locals said that the areas have been suffering with the water crisis since a long time.
“We have approached the concerned authorities, but all in vain and nobody is paying heed to our sufferings,” they said.
The locals have appealed to the higher authorities to resolve the crisis or people will be forced to take to the streets.
When contacted, AEE, Jal Shakti Department, Javaid Ahmad said that new pipelines are being laid in the area.
“After a week’s time the area will get drinking water supply in abundance,” he added.
Meanwhile people of Adabal Tailwani area of Achabal in Anantnag district staged a protest against the alleged failure of (PHE) department in providing to provide drinking water supply to the residents.
The residents said that they are facing the crisis for years now.
“In summers the situation gets worse,” said Aqib, a local resident.
The protestors said they have brought the matter to the notice of concerned authorities but nothing has been done to restore water supply in the area.
Locals of the area appealed the higher authorities of concerned department for redressal of their grievances.
On contacting Executive Engineer Jal Shakhti Anantnag, Mohammed Siraj Shah, he said that he will look into the issue and try to sort out the grievances the people have raised.
