Coronavirus: Seven deaths, 523 positive cases reported in JK

Srinagar: Kashmir Valley on Saturday reported seven more deaths due to covid-19, taking the number of people succumbing to the virus to 305. Meanwhile, 523 new covid-19 infections were also detected taing the overall tally past 17000-mark.
Among the fresh casualties, four were from Srinagar, the worst hit district both in terms of the causalities as well as the number of the covid-19 cases, while other victims belonged to Baramulla, Budgam and Bandipora officials said.
They said a 70-year-old man from Peerbagh area of Srinagar, who was admitted on July 20, and tested positive for the virus subsequently, died at SKIMS Soura at 7 a.m. today.
At 7:40 a.m., they said, another patient—a 75-year-old man from Rawalpora Srinagar— died at the tertiary care hospital.
“He had cardio-pulmonary arrest. The patient was suffering from pneumonia and ARDS,” a senior doctor of the hospital said.
Later at 9:30 a.m., a 48-year-old woman from Kantbagh Baramulla passed away at the hospital, the doctor. She was admitted on July 22 and diagnosed as case of pneumonia and ARDS besides hypothyroidism, he added.
At 3:30 p.m., he said, a 72-year-old patient from Brain Nishat, admitted on 20 July, died at the hospital.
“He was suffering from hypertension,T2DM with bilateral community acquired pneumonia.”
Meanwhile, a 70-year-old woman from Safa Kadal area of Srinagar died at SMHS hospital, a senior doctor confirmed.
The septuagenarian was admitted on July 21 and was suffering from pneumonia and hypertension, the doctor added.
Two other persons—one each from Bandipora and Budgam also died due to the virus in last 24 hours, official said.
So far 283 deaths have been reported in Kashmir and 22 in Jammu division.
Srinagar district with 86 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla (63), Kulgam (26), 21 each in Anantnag and Budgam, Shopian (20), 16 each in Pulwama and Kupwara, Jammu(14), Bandipora (8), Ganderbal (6), two each in Rajouri and Doda and one each in Poonch, Udhampur, and Kathua.
Meanwhile, 88 travelers, at least 34 CRPF personnel and twelve minors were among 523 new covid-19 infections detected taking the overall tally past 17000-mark in J&K.
Officials said that among them, 156 were reported from Jammu division and 367 from Kashmir Valley including seven army men, three pregnant women and as many doctors. Also 300 patients recovered and were discharged from various hospitals in J&K.
Giving the district-wise breakup, officials sources said that Srinagar reported 145, Baramulla 18, Kulgam 6, Shopian 11, Pulwama 62, Bandipora 30, Ganderbal 9, Jammu 66, Kathua 27, Rajouri 16, Udhampur 2, Ramban 9, Samba 2, Poonch 4, Kishtwar 10 and Reasi 2.
At least 163 infections were confirmed at SKIMS Soura along with considerable cases at CD hospital laboratories.
