Pulwama: Families of dozens of jail inmates who are presently lodged in correctional home Pulwama have demanded better care for them amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
They said that whenever jail inmates call us they complain that they are not treated well here.
“Treat our loved ones like human being and provide every medical assistance whatever they need it,” said a parent whose ward has been lodged at the correctional home.
“Everyone in custody has a right to be kept safe and if authorities cannot keep them safe, they should let them go on humanitarian ground till the pandemic crisis is over,” another relative of an inmate added.
Brother of one of the inmates said that he called them a day back and said that most of the inmates are suffering from fever, infection and other diseases.
“The inmates have been demanding to be checked for Covid-19 infections but their samples have not been taken,” he added.
He said that jail is already overcrowded and if any jail inmate turns positive for Covid-19, it will have a disastrous effect.
He said that his brother also complained that they are not provided the health care which they have a right to.
The families requested the concerned authorities to look into the matter and provide them with better health care facilities so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
On contacting DIG prisons Mohammed Sultan lone, he said that he will look into matter.
“I will take up the issue with concerned jail superintendent and every facility will be provided to the people lodged there,” he added.
