33 travelers among 453 more test positive as tally jumps to 15711

Srinagar: A five year-old boy was among ten patients who died due to the deadly virus in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, taking the total number of people who died of the COVID-19 to 278. Meanwhile, 453 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The twelve more deaths attributed to covid-19 including a 5-year-old child from Bandipora and a 28-year-old young woman from Kulgam district. With these deaths, the fatality count due to the virus has risen to 278—258 in Kashmir Valley and 20 in Jammu division.

Five deaths occurred at SKIMS Soura, as many at SMHS hospital including BSF trooper posted in Baramulla while one each was reported at CD hospital and SKIMS Bemina here, official sources said.

They said that the child, a resident of Qazipora Bandipora, died at SKIMS Soura, a week after he tested positive for covid-19. The minor had about 90 percent burn injuries, they said.

Regarding the young woman from Qazigund Kulgam, they said, she was admitted to SKIMS Bemina on July 14 had various underlying ailments including diabetes mellitus. “The woman was shifted to ICU on July 20 and today at 9:15 a.m. she was intubated but at 12:05p.m. She developed sudden cardiac arrest and was declared dead at 1:15 p.m.,” they said.

The other casualties include a bank manager, in 50s, from Batamaloo who died at SKIMS Soura, a 45-year-old from Shahgund village of Bandipora, presently at Zoonimar, who was declared brought dead on arrival by the doctors at CD hospital, his age-mate male from Palpora who passed away at SMHS hospital, a 70-year-old male from Ganderbal, a 54-year-old man from Sonawar Srinagar, 58-year-old from Rajbagh Srinagar, a 45-year-old from Khanyar Srinagar who was suffering from diabetes, hypertension and bilateral pneumonia, a male, in 50s, from Umarhair Srinagar who died at SKIMS Soura and 56-year-old woman from Pulwama.

Regarding the quinquagenarian from Pulwama, they said, she was resident of Pathan. She was admitted to SMHS hospital on July 21 and died today. “she was a cancer patient suffering for Myelodysplastic syndrome” they added.

Regarding 45-year-old from Shahgund Bandipora, they said, he was declared brought dead on arrival by the doctors at CD hospital, one of the exclusive facilities for the management of the covid-19 patients here, late last night. “The patient was declared covid-19 positive and was brought to CD hospital late last night. However the doctors who attended upon him declared him dead on arrival,” they said. .

Regarding the 45-year-old male from Palpora who was diagnosed of having community acquired pneumonia among other ailments died at SMHS hospital, a senior doctor there told GNS.

Regarding the quinquagenarian from Rajbagh, they said, he was admitted on July 16 and tested positive subsequently.

Regarding septuagenarian from Ganderbal, they said, he was admitted on July 20 and died last night at SMHS. “He was suffering from bilateral pneumonia and had tested positive posthumously.”

As regards the 54-year-old man from Sonwar Srinagar, they said he was admitted on July 14. Regarding the BSF trooper, they said, he was from 40 battalion and admitted to SMHS hospital of July 20. “He died today,” they added.

With these deaths, 258 people in Kashmir and 20 in Jammu have died so far due to the covid-19.

Srinagar district with 74 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla (58), Kulgam (26), 19 each in Shopian and Anantnag, Budgam (20), fifteen each in Pulwama and Kupwara, Jammu(12), Bandipora (7), Ganderbal (5), two each in Rajouri and Doda and one each in Poonch, Udhampur, and Kathua.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases jumped to 15711 as 453 more people tested positive for the deadly virus that include 33 travelers, two expecting mothers and an employee of Lal Ded maternity hospital.

Among 453 new cases, 352 belong to Kashmir division while as 101 are from Jammu division, officials said, adding that the total number of positive cases in Kashmir division have reached to 12477 including 6734 recoveries and 253 deaths while as total number of positive cases in Jammu division have reached to 3234 including 1873 recoveries and 20 deaths.

The officials said that the total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 6831 including 5490 from Kashmir division and 1341 from Jammu division.

With 152 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached to 8607 which is 54.77 percent of the total cases which was over 63 per cent few days before.

Pertinently, Srinagar district alone has 3450 positive cases, which is more than the total number of positive cases in Jammu division where total cases are 3234.

“Cases tested positive in J&K include 165 from Srinagar, 58 from Baramulla, 62 from Kulgam, 16 from Shopian, 01 from Anantnag, 11 from Kupwara, 30 from Pulwama, 04 from Budgam and 05 from Bandipora in Kashmir division while as 101 from Jammu division include 14 from Jammu, 10 from Kuthua, 47 from Rajouri, 08 from Udhampur, 04 from Samba, 06 from Doda, 04 from Poonch and 08 from Reasi,” officials disclosed.

Officials from CD hospital said that new positive cases include 2 pregnant ladies, 5 defense personnel and one staff member from LD hospital.

As per officials figures, 3450 positive cases including 71 deaths and 1253 recoveries are from Srinagar, 1709 including 57 deaths and 948 recoveries are from Baramulla, 1248 including 868 recoveries and 26 deaths are from Kulgam, 1184 including 19 deaths and 804 recoveries are from Shopian, 1098 including 19 deaths and 716 recoveries are from Anantnag, 976 including 598 recoveries and 15 deaths are from Kupwara, 1072 including 538 recoveries and 14 deaths are from Pulwama, 950 including 500 recoveries and 20 deaths are from Budgam, 483 including 370 recoveries and 07 deaths are from Bandipora and 307 including 139 recoveries and 05 death are from are from Ganderbal.

In Jammu division, 665 including 459 recoveries and 12 deaths are from Jammu district, 396 including 276 recoveries and 01 death are from Kathua, 486 including 119 recoveries and 02 death are from Rajouri, 375 including 299 recoveries and 01 death is from Udhampur, 419 including 242 recoveries are from Ramban, 344 including 176 recoveries and 01 death are from Samba, 206 including 97 recoveries and 02 deaths are from Doda, 159 including 131 recoveries and 01 death is from Poonch and 90 including 29 recoveries are from Kishtwar and 94 including 45 recoveries are from Reasi.

As per the daily information bulletin, 341,263 persons in Jammu and Kashmir are under observation while 39,981 persons have been kept under home quarantine besides that 6831 persons are in hospital isolation while 11 persons are under hospital quarantine.

According to the bulletin, 252,383 persons have completed surveillance period and 41,784 persons are under home surveillance besides that so far results of 537,891 samples are available.

Out of 537,891 the number of samples tested negative stands at 522,180 while as 15,711 have been tested positive, among them 6831 are active and 8607 persons have recovered and 273 persons have died. (with inputs from GNS, KNO)
