Srinagar: The detailed project report (DPR) of two-laning of all important Mughal road will be submitted to the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) in November this year.
A senior official said that work on preparation of DPR for two-laning of the ambitious road project is in progress.
“The DPR is under progress and is likely to be completed by November 2020,” NHIDCL’s executive director Sanjeev Malik disclosed.
The preparation of DPR for ambitious project connecting Kashmir Valley with Pir Panchal region had faced multiple hurdles in the past.
In 2017, NHIDCL sought proposals from eligible consultants for preparation of the DPR for Mughal road tunnel.
But NHIDCL put the process in abeyance, reasoning that Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways (MORTH) had not entrusted the project to it. The NHIDCL’s decision left the then state government embarrassed as this project was part of PDP-BJP government’s common minimum program, known as “Agenda of Alliance”.
Angry over NHIDCL’s move, then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Roads & Buildings Minister Naeem Akther rushed to New Delhi and met Union Road & Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to seek revival of the project that was put in the cold.
After imposition of Governor’s rule in J&K in June 2018, the NHIDCL invited proposals from eligible consultants for preparation of DPR of the project.
The consultant-M/s Rodic Consultants Private Limited /Monarch Surveyors and Engineering Consultant Private Limited- submitted alignment report of the project on September 26, 2019.
However, before formation of PDP-BJP government, NC-Congress regime had also taken up the matter with Centre government at different levels and had also explored options of external funding for the project. (KNO)
