Two boys drown in Dadi canal in south Kashmir
Srinagar: Two boys drowned in Dadi canal in Khiram area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.
A senior police official said that as soon as information about the incident was received, a police party was rushed to the spot. Joined by locals, the team retrieved both the minors who were rushed to a hospital where doctors who attended upon them declared them as brought dead.
The victims have been identified as Abrar and Waseem, both aged 12.
“They were from Bakerwal community,” the official added.
Meanwhile, following the incident authorities in Anantnag imposed a blanket ban on swimming and bathing in River Jhelum, its tributaries, nallahs, streams and other water bodies within the south Kashmir district forthwith.
“In view of threat to human lives due to drowning incidents while bathing/swimming in Rivers / Streams/ Nallahs; and as a precautionary measure, a blanket ban is hereby imposed on swimming / bathing in River Jehlum, its tributaries, nallahs, streams and other water bodies within Anantnag district forthwith,” reads an order issued by deputy Commissioner Anantnag K K Sidha.
“The Tehsildars (Executive Magistrates), Police Officers (SHOs) & Engineers of Jal Shakti Department shall keep strict vigil in their respective areas of jurisdiction to ensure implementation of the order in letter and spirit,” the order, adds. (with GNS inputs)
