Coronavirus: 14 more fall to Covid-19 infections, toll touches 222

490 new cases drag tally past 12000 Mark
Srinagar: Kashmir Valley reported fourteen more covid-19 related deaths, taking the fatality count due to the virus to 222, officials said on Thursday.
Officials said that 14 deaths include 65-year- old man from Khawjabagh, Baramulla, 65-year-old man from Sirhama,Anantnag, 60-year-old woman from Sanbari, Kokernag, 67-year-old male from Bathra, Budgam, 75-year old male from Batamaloo, Srinagar, 60-year-old male from Karnah, Kupwara, 75-year-old male from Nishat Srinagar, 62-year-old male from Khanka-e Moula, Srinagar, a woman from Shopian, 75-year-old woman from Sonwar, Srinagar, 62-year-old male from Mallabagh, Soura, 50-year-old woman from Banglow, Bagh Srinagar, 62-year old male from Baramulla and 80-year-old male from Sopore.
Two of the fatalities reported from SKIMS Soura include a 65-year-old man from Khajabagh Baramulla and his age-mate from Serhama Anantnag. The other one pertains to a 60-year-old woman from Sanbari Kokernag whose covid-19 positive test was confirmed, three days after her death at GMC Anantnag.
Regarding the sexagenarian from the north Kashmir district, a senior doctor at SKIMS said that he was admitted on July 7 as a “case of bilateral CAP (community acquired pneumonia), Type 1 Respiratory failure and severe ARDS.”
Having hypertension as comorbidity, the covid-19 patient died at 6:40 a.m. due to “cardiopulmonary arrest,” the doctor said.
Regarding the 65-year-old man from Serhama Bijbehara, the doctor said that he had multiple problems.
Meanwhile, as regards the sexagenarian from Sanbari Kokernag, official sources said that her sample was taken on Jul 10 and returned positive late last night. A family member said that number of people participated in her ‘Ghusl’ while hundreds participated in funeral prayers.
“She died at around 11 p.m. on July 13 and we took body other day. A number of people participated in ‘Ghusl’ and several hundred people took part in her funeral,” the family member said, adding, “Neither anyone at GMC Anantnag nor any official from the district told us to follow covid-19 related guidelines. We are illiterate. Now we have been told there would be testing of family members.” The other deaths took place during the course of the day .
With these deaths, 204 people in Kashmir and 18 in Jammu have died so far due to the covid-19.
Srinagar district with 55 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla (48), Kulgam (23), Shopian (17), Anantnag (17), Budgam (16), Kupwara (13), Jammu (11), Pulwama (7), Ganderbal (4), Bandipora (3) and Doda (2) while one death each has been reported from Poonch, Udhampur, Rajouri, and Kathua.
Meanwhile, 490 new covid-19 infections were reported in Jammu and Kashmir taking the overall tally past 12000 mark.
Officials said that 62 cases were reported from Jammu and 428 from Kashmir Valley even as 109 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals.
Giving district-wise details, official sources said that Srinagar reported 259 cases, Baramulla 18, Kulgam 21, Shopian 42, Anantnag 6, Kupwara 3, Pulwama 32, Budgam 34, Bandipora 2 and Ganderbal 11.
Similarly, they said, Jammu reported 14 new infections, Udhampur 3, Kathua 2, Rajouri 33, Samba 8 and Doda 2.
Among the fresh cases include 16 from army’s BB Cantt Srinagar, 11 from CRPF’s 216 TC, 45 from 115 Bn Zakura Srinagar, one from IGP Office Birein Nishat, two from A/237 battalion Jawahar Nagar, six from G/117 Bn Jawahar Nagar, 11 from Crime Branch Building Humhama Budgam, seven from BSF Srinagar, 42 from 54 Bn near Jamal Carpet Srinagar, six from 54 Bn Nishat Srinagar, 11 from 35 Bn Humama Budgam and one from 18 Bn Kulgam.
182 cases were confirmed at SKIMS Soura diagnostic lab and include ten males (42, 27, 25, 27, 37, 22, 31, 22, 21, 22) from BB Cantt Srinagar.

Meanwhile, 109 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 34 from Jammu Division and 75 from Kashmir Division.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Corona virus (Covid-19), out of 12156 positive cases, 5488 are Active Positive, 6446 have recovered and 222 have died; 18 in Jammu division and 204 in Kashmir division. (with inputs from GNS)
