Anantnag: Even as the government has claimed to provide tap water to the entire households in Jammu and Kashmir by March 2022, various villages located in several townships are craving for potable water.
Residents of Katoo village which is about 5 kms from Bijbehara area have alleged that tall claims of Jal Shakti Department are getting punctured here as authorities have failed to provide drinking water facility to the area.
The locals said that the authorities have ‘failed’ to install water pipelines to supply potable water to the village.
The inhabitants said that the village is without drinking water facility as no water pipeline has been installed here so far, thus leaving the entire population to consume unsafe water.
According to locals, the PHE department started a water supply scheme in K Kalan, a decade back with an aim to provide drinking water facility to many villages including Kathoo.
However, the residents said since then more than 11 years have passed but they are yet get a single drop of drinking water from the proposed scheme.
The locals further said that they approached the concerned authorities several times, requesting them to provide drinking water to the village, but to no avail.
One of the residents said that almost 150 households are without drinking water facility due to which locals are facing immense hardships.
Locals here have urged the concerned authorities to look into the issue so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
On contacting executive engineer Jal Shakti Division Bijbehara Siraj ud din Shah, he said that department is working to provide drinking water supply in all the adjacent areas.
“Hopefully all schemes in the area will be completed by the end of 2020 and the entire population will get drinking water supply,” he added.
