Police arrests 36 gamblers, three notorious drug peddlers

Srinagar: Police have arrested 36 gamblers and three drug peddlers from various areas, a police spokesman said.
He said that in Pahalgam area 32 gamblers were arrested during various raids.
Following inputs about gambling activities in Pahalgam, police party from PS Pahalgam under the supervision of SDPO Pahalgam raided different areas of Pahalgam and apprehended 32 gamblers.
Officers have seized playing cards and stake money of ₹2,39,000/- from the gamblers. They have been shifted to Police Station Pahalgam where they remain in custody, a police spokesman said.
He said that a case under relevant sections of law have been registered in Police Station Pahalgam and investigation has been initiated.
Apart from arresting gamblers, police have also apprehended two notorious drug peddlers. Officers were able to recover 30 Kgs of Poppy straw from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to PS Pahalgam where they remain in custody.
Subsequently, a cCase FIR No. 43/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Pahalgam and investigation in the matter has been initiated.
In another action, police have arrested three gamblers following inputs about gambling activities in the Dalgate area.
A police party headed by Incharge PP Nehru Park raided a gambling spot in Gagribal Buchwara area of Dalgate and arrested three gamblers. Stake money of ₹3,120 and playing cards were seized by police party.
In this regard a case FIR No. 78/20 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station R.M Bagh and initiated investigation, the spokesman added.
In another case police arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
Officers at a checkpoint established at Habber-Khag intercepted a person identified as Ghulam Qadir Malik resident of Shunglipora. During checking, officers were able to recover 200 grams of Charas from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Khag where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 58/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Khag and investigation in the matter has been initiated, the spokesman added.
