Death toll reaches 171, positive cases cross 10K mark

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday reported eleven more covid-19 related deaths, the highest single day spike in fatalities so far. The deaths—nine from Valley and two from Jammu, took the fatality count due to the deadly virus in J&K to 171. Also, 102 people have died in little over three weeks in J&K as the death toll stood at 69 on June 18.
Officials said that the victims include a 50-year-old from Handwara, 58-year-old from RS Pora Jammu, 73-year-old male from Pattan Baramulla, 55-year-old man from Bari Brahmana Jammu, 45-year-old man from Trehgam Kupwara, 25-year-old woman from Anantnag, 50-year-old man Kanipora (Budgam), 65-year-old woman from Habba Kadal Srinagar, 70-year-old woman from Nuner Ganderbal, 56-year-old woman from Shalimar and 77- year-old man from Hyderpora Srinagar.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Dr Nazir Choudhary said that a 50-year-old man from Handwara having bilateral pneumonia with co-morbidities died today. “His sample which was taken on July 10 returned positive for the covid-19,” he said.
The 45-year-old man from Kanipora Budgam died at SMHS hospital. “He had Bilateral pneumonia,” Dr Choudhary said.
Regarding the 25-year-old woman, resident of Hakura Anantnag, died at the SMHS hospital, Dr Choudhary said: “The woman was having high blood pressure. Later a caesarean section was done in emergency (at LD hospital on June 27) and a male baby was born who is safe”. The woman, admitted to the hospital on July 3, had “intracranial hemorrhage due to high blood pressure and she was put on ventilator and died last night,” he added.
Medical superintendent SKIMS Dr Farooq Jan said that the woman from Shalimarwas admitted on July 10 and had bilateral Community acquired pneumonia and T1RF. “She was in ward 2A and died at 12:30 p.m. Her test came positive later,” he said.
Regarding Shalimar woman, Professor Farooq said that she died at 05:10 p.m. with cause of death being cardiopulmonary arrest. “She was admitted on July 6 and was known case of B/L CAP with HTN with DM.”
The 73-year-old man from Pattan area of Baramulla district died SKIMS, two days after he was admitted. The septuagenarian was suffering “COPD with pancytopenia with B/L lung infiltrates”, Professor Farooq told that.
A 77-year-old man from Hyderpora Srinagar died At SKIMS Soura and according Professor Farooq Jan, the septuagenarian was “a case of Carcinoma Urinary Bladder and was admitted with Bilateral Pneumonia With ARDS.”
“He was very sick and was on ventilator (Under Double Pressor Support) in IDB Block,” Professor Jan said, adding, “He expired at 7.45 a.m., today.”
Meanwhile, a 65-year-old man from Srinagar’s Habba Kadal area died at CD hospital here. “The patient was diabetic, hypertensive and had bilateral pneumonia,” Dr Salim Tal, Medical Superintendent CD hospital said.
A resident of Trehgam, the quadragenarian succumbed at CD hospital, one of the exclusive facilities for the management of the covid-19 patients here.
“He was having hypertension, diabetes and bilateral pneumonia. The patient was on ventilator,” Dr Salim Tak told GNS. “He was shifted from SMHS hospital on July 4 and died this morning,” Dr Tak added.
Prior to him, a 55-year-old man from Bari Brahmana died at Government Medical College Jammu.
Medical Superintendent of GMC Jammu, Dr. Dara Singh told that the quinquagenarian had comorbidities like “CA bladder and diabetes.” He was admitted on June 29 and died today, he added.
Later in the evening, a 58-year-old man with severe respiratory symptoms apart from hypertension and liver disease died at GMC Jammu, Principal GMC Jammu Dr Nasib Chand said.
With these deaths, 154 people in Kashmir and 17 in Jammu division have died so far due to the virus.
Srinagar district with 42 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla (32), Kulgam (18), Shopian (16), Anantnag (14), Budgam (12), Jammu (10), Kupwara (9), Pulwama (5), Bandipora (3), two each in Doda and Ganderbal while one death each has been reported from Poonch, Udhampur, Rajouri and Kathua.
Meanwhile, the number of covid-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir crossed 10000 mark as 268 news infections were reported on Saturday. The cases which include 15 army soldiers and ten paramilitary personnel take the overall all tally to 10156.
87 cases were reported from Jammu division and 181 from Kashmir including four pregnant Ladies, five employees of J&K Bank Employees Handwara and three policemen from Tangdar and Kralgund.
Giving district wise break-up of the cases, officials told that Srinagar reported 67, 37 each from Baramulla and Kupwara, Rajouri 29, Kulgam 23, Jammu 21, Kathua 20, six each from Anantnag and Samba, Pulwama 5, four each from Budgam and Reasi, three each from Udhampur and Poonch besides one each from Shopian, Ganderbal and Kishtwar.
Dr. G H Yatoo, Nodal Officer Coronavirus Control Measures at SKIMS Soura told that out of 1366 samples which were processed at the viral diagnostic laboratory of the hospital today, 64 returned positive for the virus.
Professor Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura said that they include 23 from Srinagar, 12 from CRPF, 11 from Kulgam, seven from Anantnag, three each from Baramulla and Pulwama besides one each from Budgam, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Shopian and Kargil.
The 23 from Srinagar include male (38) from Bagat Barzulla, male (40) from Hawal, male (47) from Wazir Bagh, male (25) from Soura, male (53) from Malabagh, male (54) from Lalbazar , Male (36) from Jawahar Nagar, female (45) from Rajouri Kadal, Male (70) from Batsha Nagar, three Males (36, 30, 44) and female (65) from Bemina, Male (18) from Batamaloo, Male (53) and two female (45, 18) from Khanyar , two Male (45, 46) from Zakoora, female (50) from Habba Kadal, Male (77) from Hyderpora , Male (60) from Gulab Bagh and female (70) from Gojwara.
The cases from Anantnag include male (37) from Wadwan, Male (24) from Logripora, two females female (30, 25) from Sunbradi, Male (33) from Voi, female (45) from Vessu Qazigund, Male (27) from Arwani, Male (65) from Anantnag and male (52) from Moinabaad Anantnag while Kupwara ones include Male (48) from Bramari and Male (50) from Kralpora and Budgam: male (29) from Awra and male (31) from Beerwah.
12 from CRPF include two male (58, 34) from 185 Bn Panzgom Pulwama, male (52) from 44 Bn Srinagar, Male (66) from 45 Bn Sumbal , five Males (28, 34, 37, 22, 27) from 9 RR Kulgam, two males (22, 29) from 18 Bn Kulgam and male (44) from Aamnoo Camp Kulgam. The Kulgam cases include male (25) from Lassipora, male (32) from Sehpora, male (30) from Begum Kulgam, male (35) from Damdul, female (28) from Adigan, male (28) from Chogam, female (60) from Dassen, female (32) from Poniwa, male (35) from Zazripora, female (35) from Asnoor and male (30) from Kulgam while Pulwama ones include Male (51) from Lethpora, Male (77) from New Colony and Male (48) from Tral. The other cases include males (80, 46) from Sopore and male (60) from Sangrama from Baramulla, female (70) from Munar, male (52) from Kargil and male (32) from Zainapora Shopian.
Dr Riyaz Untoo, Principal SKIMS Bemina told that out of 385 samples processed at the hospital’s lab, 12 tested positive for COVID-19 including ten from Srinagar and two from Budgam.
The Budgam cases include M-70 Chadoora and M-36 Hissipora Chadoora while Srinagar ones are F- 38 , M- 12, M-40, F-33 , M -5 Months from Wantpora, M-32 Fateh Kadal, M.24 Karfali Mohalla, F-30 Sheikh Mohalla Sr.Gunj, M-75 Harwan and F-57 K.U.
