The situation we are in depicts that we have crossed the threshold

Population explosion can be defined as the increase in the number of the people, which exceeds the carrying capacity of the earth. The Earth is capable of sustaining a particular range or limit of people. Crossing the limit means that we are inviting a disaster.

The situation we are in depicts that we have crossed the threshold. The present situation has taken an ugly turn. With the number of people increasing day by day and coupled with the shortage of resources, many problems are being felt on the ground.

If the sustainable steps are not adopted or followed, the present as well as the future generations is or will be in trouble. Malnutrition, maladjustment, environmental pollution, illiteracy, unhygienic conditions, poverty, economic, inequality, pandemic, etc., are the symptoms of population explosion.

If this is the situation, what are its consequences and the remedial measures? In the times of the pandemic, it becomes more important to know about it. Precaution is better than cure. It is visible when every policy or mind has failed in controlling the pandemic. Same can again happen if the menace of population explosion is not controlled. So, let us start this short journey with the consequences of population explosion.

The first consequence of population explosion is shortage of food. There will be many mouths without food. Without food, no nation can think of development. A hungry stomach can never do miracles. This nation will stoop low in every respect.

The second consequence of population explosion is that shortage of land. The Earth cannot expand. It is as it was. The surface area of the Earth is same as it was at the time of the Big Bang Theory. But population explosion has no stopped. It is increasing day by day. In this situation, it becomes impossible to provide space to the increasing population. Eventually, a country is devoid of space and then comes the stage where an arable land is used for the concrete purposes.

The third consequence is that there will be shortage of schools, colleges, universities, etc. Increase in population has made it impossible to provide space for every child to get education. In India, the majority of children are out of educational institutions. When there is steady increase in population, it becomes difficult to adjust the new comers. In this scenario, the country faces unprecedented challenges in many respects.

The fourth consequence of this is that human resources get wasted. The brilliant minds become scapegoats when they are subjected to diverse problems. An intelligent child, when devoid of resources like land, food, money, counseling, etc, becomes dejected and loses interest in his or her life. In this way, a nation treads the path of destruction.

The fifth and the last consequence according to my opinion is that a country with huge population to support never prospers. There are myriad of problems that haunt each and every rational being of the country. Lack of provisions like infrastructure, health services, communication, personality developments, etc., are never solved. Generations come and go without leaving any mark on the society.

The above discussion was about the consequences. Now, let us shift our focus towards the remedial measures. This is the need of the hour.

The first remedial measure is education. Educating everyone about the benefits of small or less population can do miracles. Enlightenment, though takes time, but changes the destinies of a nation. A lot of number of people without enlightenment is worse than animals. So, education can be one of the most best remedial measures in this endeavour.

The second remedial measure in this regard is that religion should be reinterpreted according to the needs of the times. Orthodoxy is both fruitful as well as harmful. The basic constitution of any religion should not be changed but the ways of approaching the religions should be according to the taste of the world.

In today’s world, religion has become one of the potent causes responsible for population explosion. A religion cannot teach destruction. So, in the garb of religion, we go for population explosion. It should be avoided at the earliest.

The third remedial measure is that we, at an individual level, should try our best to know the pros and cons of any problem. If we have been endowed with the marvelous brains it is our duty to use it in the best possible ways. We are the creators and we can be the destroyers as well. The ball is in our court to understand the minuteness of the present situation.

The fourth and the last remedial measure is that we should follow the Creator’s plan. The Creator wants to have quality. He does not want to have quantity, who doesn’t use their minds in any useful way. So, by following the Creator’s plan, we can come out of the morass in which we have been caught. Life has a purpose. Producing children is a duty but not the only duty.

In this article, I have tried my best to throw some light over the burning issue of the present times. If best sense does not prevail, the time is not far away when we will curse ourselves as well as our common fate.

Let us rise to the occasion and set ourselves before it is too late. It is better to be late than never, is a proverb that fits in our lives. Let us pledge that we should not waste our human resources in this way. I am ready. Are you?
