South Kashmir sweeper’s body seeks increased wages
Anantnag: South Kashmir sweepers Association on Friday demanded an increase in their wages and also sought that their jobs be made permanent.
In a statement issued here, President South Kashmir’s Sweepers Association of the Rural Development Department, Mohammad Rafiq Sheikh said that the sweepers working in the RDD have been putting in around two decades of service but still they are getting meager wages.
“We have been working since the past 20 years now and since then our wages have not been raised. We have performed our duty with sincerity by keeping aside our family obligations in order to meet the demands of our job, but unfortunately due to low wages we cannot afford to survive,” he said.
“Our families are struggling hard but government has never bothered to listen to us. The government has ignored our genuine demands. We have number of times approached the higher authorities in order to provide us seek permanent adjustment in the department, but our pleas have not been heard,” he added.
Sheikh appealed the Lt Governor to address their genuine demands so that the sweepers can also provide a better life to their family members especially the children.
