JK records six Covid-19 deaths, 330 positive cases

Death toll touches 148, positive cases surge to 9261

Srinagar: Kashmir Valley on Wednesday reported six deaths due to covid-19, taking the fatality count due to the virus in J&K to 149.
Medical Superintendent CD hospital Dr Salim Tak said one among those who died at the hospital was a 44-year-old from Sopore town of Baramulla and other, a 75-year-old, was from Batamaloo Srinagar.
The quadragenarian was suffering from bilateral pneumonia and had acute respiratory failure and was on ventilator, Tak said.
“The young man was admitted to the hospital on June 27 and died today,” he said.
Regarding the septuagenarian from Batamaloo, Dr Tak said that he was suffering from chronic kidney disease, hypertension, hypothyroidism and had bilateral pneumonia. He died a day after he was admitted to the hospital, Dr Tak added.
Earlier, hours after a 65-year-old man from Nadihal Baramulla died at a hospital here, his sample for covid-19 returned positive. The sexagenarian was admitted to SMHS hospital on July 6, officials said.
“He had bilateral pneumonia. The patient was very critical,” Medical Superintendent of SMHS hospital Dr Nazir Choudhary said.
“He died last night and his sample for covid-19 came out to be positive today,” he added.
Also, a 70-year-old woman from Shopian died at the hospital here, two days after she was admitted. The septuagenarian with Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) also died last evening, Dr Choudhary said.
Meanwhile, sources said that 51-year-old woman from Narbal Magam Budgam who died yesterday and was sampled at SMHS hospital tested positive today.
Previously, a 36-year-old woman from Nehru Park Srinagar died at SKIMS Soura here, six days after she tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Professor Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura told GNS the woman died due to “cardiopulmonary arrest” at 2:40 a.m.
“She was a known case of hypertension with T2DM,” he said. The young woman had ‘post renal transplant’ in 2016 and she had reported to hospital’s emergency on June 28 with complaints of shortness of breath, Professor Jan said. “She was admitted and a preliminary diagnosis of pneumothorax was made and covid-19 sample was taken which came out positive on July 2. The patient had B/L Intercostal drain in place,” he added.
With these deaths, 135 people in Kashmir and 14 in Jammu division have died so far due to the virus.
Srinagar district with 36 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla (30), Kulgam (17), Shopian (14), Anantnag (12), Budgam (11), Jammu (8), Kupwara (7), Pulwama (four), Bandipora (three), Doda (2) while one death each has been reported from Ganderbal, Poonch, Udhampur, Rajouri and Kathua.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir reported 330 covid-19 infections including 9 from Raj Bhawan here and 19 from paramilitary CRPF Humhama.
Among the cases, 59 were from Jammu Division and 271 from Kashmir valley, taking the tally overall to 9261.
Giving the district wise breakup, officials said Srinagar reported 119, Baramulla 82, Anantnag26, Rajouri 23, Kupwara 18, Doda 14, seven each in Bandipora and Samba, five each in Budgam and Udhampur, four each in Kulgam, Ganderbal, Shopian and Reasi, two each in Pulwama, Ramban and Jammu, one each in Kathua and Kishtwar.
Among the cases also one each from DPL Kupwara and Baramulla, two from BB CANT Srinagar, four employees from JKB and one from Axis Bank besides two heath worker, three pregnant woman.
Dr. G H Yatoo, Nodal Officer Coronavirus Control Measures at SKIMS Soura said that out of the 2385 samples which were processed at the viral diagnostic laboratory of the hospital, 83 returned positive for the virus.

The Bandipora cases include male (33) from NHPC, female (40) from Naidkhai , Male (40) from Sumbal Bandipora, , Male (48) from Ayathmulla , Male (19) from Gundpora and two females (45, 43) from Ahamishareef. 19 from CRPF include male (38, 33, 48, 24, 41, 39, 40, 40, 30, 52, 46, 50, 40, 50, 53, 39, 30, 39, 35) from 35 batallion Humama Budgam.
Dr Riyaz Untoo, Principal SKIMS Bemina, told that out of 430 samples processed at the hospital’s lab, 51 tested positive for COVID-19. Of them 50 are from Srinagar and one Shopian—female (38) from Nadigam.
The Srinagar cases include female (65) from Nawakadal, male (56) and female (53) from Ahmad Nagar, male (40) and female (58) from Elahibagh, female (25) and two males (32, 65) from Lal Bazar, male (40) from Budshah Mohalla Lal Bazar females (35, 58) and male (60) from Buchpora, male (33) from Ganderbal, male (42) and two females (17, 50) from SR Gunj, female (40) from Barbarshah, male (27) from Khankah, male (25) from Aalikadal, males (14, 11) and from Zadi Masjid Safa Kadal, males (95, 1) and female (60) from Habbkadal, male (47) from Khanyar, male (23) from Nowshera, male (23), originally a resident of Kupwara, female (42) from Nishat, male (37) from Hyderpora, male (28) from Wuyan Pampore, male (24) from Kralpora, male (45) from Batamaloo, male (36) from Watlar, amle (32) from Rajwan, male (30) from Soura, female (30) and male (59) from Rawalpora, female (29) from Rainawari, male (35) from Chanapora, males (31 and 52) from Dalgate, male (36) from Eidgah, male (45) from Balgardan, male (30) from Maisuma, male (48) and female (65) from Peerbagh, males (22 and 42) from Sonwar and male (45) from Naseem Bagh.
