Army claims foiling infiltration bid in Kupwara

Kupwara, June 30: The army on Tuesday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid in north Kashmir’s Kupwara area.

Sources said that an exchange of fire between a group of militants and army soldiers took place during the intervening night of June 29 and 30.

Defense sources said that soldiers observed the suspicious movement of 6 to 8 persons in Furkian Gali along Line of Control in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

The two groups of infiltrators resorted to indiscriminate firing upon being challenged but managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness.

Sources added that massive combing operation has been launched in the area and it is still in progress.

Pertinently, on 5 April this year, army had foiled a major infiltration bid killing five militants, however, five soldiers were also killed in that face off in Keran Sector. The slain soldiers were later identified as Subedar Sanjeev Kumar of Himachal Pradesh, Haveldar Davendar Singh of Utrakhand, Para-trooper Bal Krishan of Himachal Pradesh, Para-trooper Amit Kumar of Utrakhand and Chattarpal Singh of Rajhstan.
