Kupwara: The death of a woman sparked protest at Sub District Hospital Kupwara in north Kashmir on Saturday, reports said.
They said that a pregnant woman identified as Parveena Begum wife of Akhtar Ali Khan of Depal Machil area of Kupwara district after developing labour pain was admitted at PHC Machil, where she delivered a baby. However, the condition of the lady deteriorated after the delivery and she was immediately shifted to Kupwara hospital where she died.
The family members of the deceased shortly after the death staged a protest against hospital authorities maintaining that the woman died due to ‘sheer negligence of doctors’. They raised slogans against CMO, BMO Kupwara saying that these officers are spending time in their cozy rooms and have turned the hospital into a laboratory where patients are left to die.
The protestors alleged that doctors at SDH Kupwara were ‘experimenting on patients as the hospital has been turned into a slaughter house.’
Hospital sources said that a junior Gynecologist was present in the hospital as the senior Gynecologist was relieved by the CMO Kupwara from the hospital after she raised her voice against the non-availability of PPE kits in the hospital.
“There was one senior Gynecologist in this hospital. She raised her voice against the shortage of PPE kits. Her action was not tolerated by present Chief Medical Officer and she was first attached and then relieved from the hospital,” said a medico on condition of anonymity.
Sources said that it was because of the absence of any senior Gynecologist in the hospital that the woman died.
BMO, Kupwara, Dr Zaffar didn’t respond to repeated calls while the cell phone of CMO was received by a man saying that CMO Madam is in a meeting. (KNT)
