Shopian youth goes missing, family appeals for his return

Shopian: A 22 year old youth from south Kashmir’s Shopian district has gone missing as his family has appealed him to return back to his home.
Basit Ahmad Bakshi son of Mohammad Ismail Bakshi resident of Ramnagri village of the district, according to his family went to Shopian main market to get medicines for his parents on June 11, however he did not return back.
His father Mohammadd Ismail said that for next days we searched for him everywhere but couldn’t trace him.
“At last we lodged a missing report at the concerned Police station on June 13,” he said.
Mohammad Ismail appealed everyone including the security agencies and militants to let him go so that he can live with his parents.
He said that his elder sons are already living separately and Basit was the lone caretaker fo his old aged parents.
“If he too leaves us like this, we shall be doomed,” he said.
Notably, Basit’s mother also made a fervent appeal asking his son to come back.
“I am suffering from a heart ailment and often remain unwell. Besides, my youngest daughter is yet to be married off. I appeal all those with whom he might have sided to let him go and be with his family,” she added.
As per locals Basit was very famous in the area for his cricketing abilities.
“He is the best all rounder in the area and was known as Babar Azam as his batting style resembles with him,” said one of his friends.
A police officer also confirmed that Basit is missing and said that chances that he might have joined the militant ranks are high.
“We are trying to trace him and he will be given an opportunity to return back to his family in case he has joined the militant ranks,” he said.
