Forward areas along LoC in Rajouri witness shelling
Jammu/Srinagar: Pakistani troops shelled forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri and Tangdhar sector in Kupwara districts on Friday, drawing retaliation from the Indian Army, officials said.
“At around 1045 hours, Pakistani Army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and resorting to intense shelling of mortars along the LoC in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district,” a defence spokesperson said.
“The Indian Army is retaliating befittingly,” the spokesperson said.
The firing and shelling continued for many hours, sources said, adding that so far no loss of life or property was reported from the area.
In another such incident Pakistani troops violated ceasefire along the Line of Control in Tangdhar sector of north Kashmir by firing mortar shells towards Indian positions on Friday, Army officials said.
“On 19 June 2020, in the evening hours, Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation (CFV) along the LoC in Tangdhar sector by firing mortars and other weapons,” the officials said.
They said the Indian Army gave a befitting response to the violations.
There were no reports of casualties in the incident.
Meanwhile, a massive forest fire broke out along the Line of Control in Poonch district triggering some landmine blasts on Friday, sources said.
There was a forest fire which spread along the LoC in the Mankote sector. Few landmines exploded due to it, they said.
Forest officials and the army are working to douse the fire, they said.
Landmines are planted by the security forces to prevent infiltration from across the border.
Meanwhile, an Army porter was injured when he accidentally stepped on a landmine along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
They said that the porter, Bashir Ahmad (30) son of Noor-ud-Din Jeendar of Charunda, received injuries in his foot due to the blast at Raino post of Hajipeer sector.
The porter was evacuated to sub-district Hospital Uri wherefrom he was shifted to GMC Baramulla for advanced treatment, the official said. (with PTI inputs)
