Mother, daughter drowns in Jhelum
Anantnag: Mother and her daughter drowned in river Jhelum in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday afternoon.
Locals said that Saleema Banoo wife of Ghulam Hassan Dar and her daughter drowned in Jhelum at Marhama village. Saleema according to witnesses was washing clothes on the banks of the river while her 12 year old daughter Nighat was p[laying nearby.
They said that Nighat who went to bathe in the river drowned and after hearing her cries for help her mother also jumped into the river however, she too could not swim.
Locals said that a rescue operation was launched by some locals to get them out but all efforts did not bear any fruit.
Meanwhile, an SDRF team has reached the spot and efforts are on to trace the drowned duo.
