Srinagar, June 15 : With stage set for floor test of Srinagar Municipal Corporation mayor Junaid Azam Mattu, all eyes are on the strategy to be adopted by Congress during the voting on no- confidence motion supported by Bharatiya Janta Party

While National Conference has already made it clear that it does not have any understanding with BJP in Srinagar Municipal Corporation, it would be interesting to watch the strategy to be adopted by the Congress during the voting.

In a tweet, National Conference had last week clarified that they don’t have any understanding with BJP in Srinagar Municipal Corporation or elsewhere.

While Congress has 16 councillors in the SMC, National Conference has 11 corporators who had joined the party in May 2019 after winning as independents during the polls held in 2018 by Governor Satya Pal Malik-led administration.

Although Congress has distanced itself from No Motion Confidence against Mayor and claimed it won’t be part of any such process, but the party has constituted a five-member committee to hold talks with its corporators before unveiling its strategy for the polls.

Post August 05, BJP is trying to gain control over the powerful civic body of Kashmir. In December last year, a similar attempt was also made to unseat Mattu.

The BJP’s Kashmir media in-charge, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat has told few days ago said that they are supporting no- confidence motion against Mattu.

“We have 27 corporators in Srinagar Municipal Corporation. Of them, four were elected on the party’s ticket and 23 joined us after winning the election as independent candidates,” he had said. (KNO)
