Covid-19: Kashmir records four more deaths, toll touches 57

Srinagar: A retired doctor and three others died of the Covid-19 infection in Jammu and Kashmir taking the death toll due to the novel virus to 57, official sources said.
They said that a74-year-old retired doctor from Parraypora Srinagar died of covid-19 early Saturday morning at SKIMS Bemina here.
Dr Riyaz Untoo, Principal SKIMS Bemina, said that the patient was on treatment for Covid-19 from June 2 at the hospital.
“He was intubated and on Ventilator,” he said, adding, “The Consultant and SR Critical Care were on spot managing the patient who could not survive despite all efforts.”
The deceased, Dr Untoo said, was suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
Meanwhile, a 60 year old man died due to covid-19 at SMHS hospital here. His death has taken the fatality count in J&K to 55.
Dr Nazir Chowdhary, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, told that the sexagenarian was admitted on June 11 and his swab sample was taken the next day.
“He had bilateral pneumonia and died today morning. Later, the result of the sample returned positive for the covid-19,” he added.
The third victim, a 75-year-old man hailed from Baramulla.
Professor Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent SKIMS told that the 75-year-old man from Kathbagh died at the tertiary care hospital on Saturday afternoon. “He had underlying disease such as KCO, COPD, HTN andT2DM,” he said.
Professor Jan said body was in mortuary as the test report returned positive for the virus.
Notably, another patient, a 60-year-old man from Nowgam Srinagar who was admitted as asymptomatic Covid-19 on June 5 having underlying Diabetes, Hypertension and CKD suddenly became breathless at 8.00 pm today and developed unconsciousness, he said.
The elderly was shifted to ICU where he had hypotension, Dr Untoo said.
“Resuscitation was tried as per protocol but the patient could not be revived and was declared dead.” He said that the patient was expected to be discharged on Sunday as his sample was taken today for testing prior to discharge.
So far Srinagar district with 14 deaths has the highest fatalities, followed by Baramulla ten, Kulgam eight, Anantnag six, four each in Shopian, Kupwara and Jammu, two each in Pulwama and Budgam while one death each has been reported from Bandipora, Doda, Udhampur and Rajouri.
Meanwhile, 24 CRPF personnel and three pregnant women were among 148 persons who tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. The fresh cases which include 35 travelers take the covid-19 tally to 4878—1135 in Jammu and 3743 in Valley.
Official sources said that 45 of the cases were reported from Kulgam, Baramulla 8, Srinagar 12, Anantnag 1, Shopian 15, Kupwara 7, Bandipora 3, Budgam 8, Pulwama 9, Ganderbal 2, Jammu 6, Ramban 2, Udhampur2, Kathua 6, Poonch 1, Samba 8, Rajouri 5 and Doda 8.
Dr. G H Yatoo, Nodal Officer Coronavirus Control Measures at SKIMS, said that out of the 1984 samples processed at the viral diagnostic lab today, 66 returned positive for the virus.
Professor Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, said that among them 33 were from Anantnag, ten from Srinagar, six each from Kupwara, Baramulla, Shopian besides three Bandipora and two from Ganderbal.
Regarding Anantnag cases (some attributed officially to Kulgam district), he said, 24 of them pertain to CRPF—22 (aged between 24 to 58 years) from 94 Battalion CRPF Urnhall besides one each—26-year-old and 31-year-old men from 40 and 80 battalions respectively.
The other cases from the southern Kashmir district two residents from Hiller Kokernag, one each from Batkoot Pahalgam, Siligam, Gohan, Pahalgam, Ugjan Dialgam, Hakhura and Samsipora.
Bandipora cases include 14-year-old girl from Baduaab Tetail, male (25) from Wanpora Gurez and male (44) from Saradaab.
The Baramulla cases include 3 men (aged 20, 22 & 52 years) from Delina and a 22-year-old woman from main Baramulla while Ganderbal cases include 64-year-old woman and 66-year-old male from Shuhama. Kupwara cases include woman (23) from Gulgam, male (27) from Harie, two—male (34) and female (21) from Panzam, 36-year-old woman from Yamler and 19-year-old from Zachaldara.
Those from Shopian include four residents (aged 18, 20, 55 and 70) from Therin Kandi, 23-year-old male from Sedow and 40-year-old man from Mantribugh.
Six samples were received from SKIMS and include 39-year-old woman from Soura, 19-yuear-old from Tangmarg, 26-year-old man from Lasjan Srinagar, a 68-year-old doctor from Lalnagar Srinagar, 75-year-old man from Parraypora and 32-year-old male from Khonmoh Srinagar.
One sample which tested positive was received from CMO Srinagar—8-year-old girl from Natipora, one from BMO Tangmarg—22-year-old male from Reram.
Sources said that 38 of the cases were confirmed at CD hospital lab and included three pregnant women.

The Budgam cases include six persons from (F-23yrs, M- 45yrs , M- 10yrs- , M -15yrs, F -21 yrs , F – 42yrs), 35-years –old (DPL) and Woman (21) from Zoogu. The Shopian cases include 46-year and 24-year-old men from DPL Shopian, 23-year-old and 25-years-old from Hajipora besides 45-year-old from Gagren.
Meanwhile, officials said that 183 more persons recovered and were discharged and include 38 from Jammu and 110 from Valley. (GNS)
