Healthcare of non Covid patients takes a hit
Anantnag: Amid the deadly Coronavirus pandemic, non covid patients are suffering a lot as the authorities have fixed all their attention and focus on the fight against Covid-19.
Several patients from different areas of south Kashmir said that they are hardly getting any treatment for the ailments they are suffering from.
Dozens of patients with renal ailments said that dialysis is must for them but all the main hospitals are overburdened with covid-19 patients and no care is being provided to non covid patients.
“We were getting treatment at private institutions however, most of them are closed and some had opened but they closed after some positive cases surfaced at these centres,” they said.
“When we visit district hospitals, hardly any attention is being provided towards us as the entire government machinery is focused to deal with Covid-19,” said Muzaffar Ahmad, an attendant who was carrying his father to a hospital in Kulgam.
“I was getting treatment at a private nursing home in Kulgam however, the private nursing home was closed after a pregnant woman who was admitted there was found positive for Covid-19,” said a his father.
He said around three dozen patients suffering from renal ailments were getting dialysis at the centre however, after the centre was closed they have been left on the mercy of God.
Another patient said that mosat of the elderly patients are suffering from Chronic diseases are they are more vulnerable to infections due to which the patients fear to visit district hospitals where mostly covid-19 positive patients are being treated.
He said that after risking our lives whenever we visit these hospitals, doctors are hardly attending on us and there is hardly any separate arrangement for them at any hospital.
On contacting Chief Medical Officer Kulgam Dr Fazil Kochak, admitted that with limited capacity they are unable to treat most non covid patients.
“Most of the hospitals are overburdened with Covid-19 patients. But still we are working on some arrangements at all district hospitals for non covid patients,” he added.
He further added that dialysis patients were getting treated at a private nursing home however after a patient was found positive there, we were forced to close it.
“We are taking samples of staff who were working at nursing home and if their reports will come negative, the nursing home will be allowed to resume work after proper sanitisation,” he added.
