Coronavirus: Five deaths, 198 positive cases reported in JK

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded five more COVID-19 related deaths including of a CRPF personnel, taking the toll in the union territory to 46, officials said on Monday.
The 40-year-old CRPF jawan, who was posted in Anantnag district in south Kashmir, was admitted to SKIMS hospital here on Thursday with acute respiratory distress syndrome, the officials said.
They said the sample of the trooper, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, was taken on Friday and it returned positive for COVID-19.
His condition became critical and he passed away late Sunday night due to sudden cardiac arrest, the officials said.
This is the first COVID-19 related death of a security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir.
A 35-year-old man from the Miskeen Bagh area of Khanyar here died at the Chest Diseases (CD) hospital — hours after he was shifted there from the SMHS hospital, the officials said.
They said the patient was shifted after he tested positive for coronavirus.
He was admitted to the SMHS hospital due to a head injury received in an accident, the officials added.
In the third death, a 55-year-old man — a resident of Pampore in Pulwama district of south Kashmir — died at the SMHS hospital on Monday, the officials said.
They said the man was suffering from bilateral pneumonia among other underlying ailments and tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.
A 65-year-old man from the Handwara area of north Kashmir died at the CD hospital here in the afternoon, eleven days after he was admitted to the facility, the officials said.
The patient had tested positive for the virus and had several underlying problems, they said.
Later late in the night a female patient who died in SMHS hospital in Srinagar tested positive for Covid-19 infection.
Sources said that a female patient hails from Sheikh Pora Kreeri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. She was 70 years old, he added.
She had been admitted in the hospital on 6 June.
Forty-six people have died of COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir so far.
The union territory has reported 4285 cases until now.
Meanwhile, a CRPF and a policeman were among 198 more covid-19 cases reported in Jammu and Kashmir, taking the number of patients to 4285 in J&K.
Among the cases, sources said that Kulgam reported 10, Baramulla 33, Srinagar 9, Anantnag 14, Shopian 31, Kupwara 11, Bandipora 9, Budgam 40, Pulwama 7, Jammu 12, Kathua 11, Poonch and Samba 4 each while one each were reported in Ganderbal Rajouri and Doda.
Dr. G H Yatoo, Nodal Officer Coronavirus Control Measures at SKIMS, said that out of the 1360 samples processed at the viral diagnostic lab today, 43 returned positive for the virus.
Professor Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, said that among them, 17 are from Anantnag, nine from Bandipora, eight from Srinagar, four from Kupwara, two each from Kulgam and Pulwama and one from Ganderbal.
He said among the samples received from CMO Srinagar and tested positive include that of 38-year-old man from Batamaloo, 26-year-old male from Hyderpora, 58-year-old and 19-year-old men from Soura, 79-year-old man and 74-year-old woman from Nowshera. Those who tested after their samples were taken at SKIMS Soura include 62-year-old from Kadder Kulgam and 29-year-old from Pulwama. Samples which were received from DH Anantnag and tested positive include Laizbal (1), Sarnal (1), Bon-Dialgam (1), Mirpora Salia (1), Krangsoo (1), Batakoot Pahalgam (1), Shamsipora (1), Tulhad Ashmuqam (1), Pahalgam (2), Siligam (1), Khandura (1), Satimadan Gopalpora (1), Uggjan Dialgam (1), Lalipora Malpora (1), Hiller Kokernag (1), and Panzgam (1).
One among the samples from DH Pora tested positive and include that of 35-year-old male from District Police Ganderbal. Besides a 37-year-old from 79 batallion CRPF, sample received from airport also tested positive, sources said. Samples received from CHC Kupwara which returned positive include 50-year-old man from Taratpora, 24-year-old man from Ganipora and 59-year-old from DPL Kupwara.
Dr Riyaz Untoo, Principal SKIMS Bemina, said that out of the 587 samples processed at the hospital’s diagnostic laboratory, 70 came out to be positive for the virus and include 32 from Shopian and 38 from Budgam.
According to the daily media, till date 214595 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 42381 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 51 in Hospital Quarantine, 2916 in hospital isolation and 55577 under home surveillance. Besides, 113625 persons have completed their surveillance period.
Moreover, 108 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 12 from Jammu Division and 96 from Kashmir Division. (with inputs from GNS)
