Srinagar: Five days after his death and subsequent burial, swab samples of an 86-year-old man from Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district returned positive for the pathogen on Wednesday, taking the death toll due to the virus in Jammu and Kashmir to 34.
Official sources said that the octogenarian, a resident of Hamray Pattan Baramulla, died on May 29 and his sample was taken at the local Community Health Centre. The authorities had allowed the burial of the elderly as per covid-19 protocol after his family agreed to it, sources said. His sample report returned positive at CD hospital diagnostic laboratory today.
Confirming it, Deputy Commissioner Baramula Dr G N Itoo said that the man had died on way to CHC Pattan. “They (concerned officials) had taken a decision to allow family to bury him as per Covid-19 protocol after (family) agreed to it,” he said.
With the latest fatality, the death toll due to the virus in J&K has gone upto 34. So far Srinagar district and Baramulla have reported highest number of the fatalities—7 each, followed by Anantnag five, Kulgam four, two each from Shopian, Budgam and Jammu while one death each has been reported from Bandipora, Kupwara Doda and Udhampur.
Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases swelled to 2857 as 139 fresh cases tested positive for the pandemic which include four BSF men, 26 pregnant women and two health workers.
Officials said that among new 117 new cases that were detected in Jammu and Kashmir, 66 tested positive at CD hospital and rest at SKIMS and other hospitals and among new 139 cases, 44 are travellers.
Among 139 new cases, 109 belong to Kashmir division while as 30 are from Jammu division, officials said, adding that the total number of positive cases in Kashmir division has reached to 2185 including 871 recoveries and 30 deaths while as total number of positive cases in Jammu division has reached to 672 including 136 recoveries and four deaths.
They added that total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 1816 including 1284 from Kashmir division and 532 from Jammu division.
Cases tested positive in J&K include 1 from Anantnag, 2 from Kulgam, 14 from Srinagar, 6 from Budgam, 10 from Kupwara, 24 from Shopian, 27 from Baramulla, 9 from Bandipora, 13 from Pulwama and 3 from Ganderbal in Kashmir division while as 30 from Jammu division include 10 each from Jammu and Poonch, 3 each from Udhampur and from Samba, and four from Rajouri.
Dr Salim Khan Nodal officer for covid-19 at GMC Srinagar said that out of samples tested at CD hospital on Wednesday, 66 including 26 pregnant ladies were found positive.
The pregnant ladies include one each from Khanpora, Rangwar, Hamray, Hanjiwara, Panzipora, Bomai, Seer, Chanibal, khajabagh, Seelo, Budibugh, two each from Shiva, Pahalan and Hathlango area of Baramulla, one each from Saidpora, Tangpora, Devpora and shopian in the district, two from Trehgam, one each from Manwan and Laderwan area of Kupwara district and one from Kangan area of Ganderbal district.
He said the other patients include 30 year male from Pattan, 38 year old female from Rehama Beeru, a BSF personal from Jalgaon, 43 year old male health worker from Gundpora Bandipora, 8 year girl from Patushay Bandipora, 50 year old male from Bonakoot, 30 year female Magnipora, 25 and 26 year old males from Gurez, 23 year old male from Ashtangoo, 32 year old male from Naz colony in Bandipora, 26 year old male from Hanjiwara, 32 year old female from Iqbal Nagar, 25 year old male khanpora Baramulla, 20 year old female from Malangham, 33 year old male from Andergam Pattan, 31 year male from Ganderbal, 22 year old male from Kangan, 60 and 40 year old males from Dangam Shopian, 48 year old male from Kachdoora Shopian, 32 year old male from J&K Bank Kachdoora Shopian, 39 year male from Sindoo Shirmal, 29 year old female from vehil Shopian, 28 year old male from Shadaab Karewa, 25 year old male from Kachdoora, 26 year old male from Shirmal, 18 year old male from Kiloora Shopian, 29 year old male from Hanjipora in shopian district, male from Hawal Srinagar, 29, 50, 52 and 36 year old males from 102 BN BSF Trehgam, 39 year male from Pattan, 40 year old male from DH Handwara, 20 year old female from Teran Mawer Kupwara, 50 year old male a dialysis patient from Tragpora Baramulla, 35 year male from Mendhar Poonch who is on Guard duty on quarantine centre.
Officials from JVC Bemina said that out of the 336 samples tested at the hospital, all were found to be negative while as reports of 399 samples are awaited.
As per officials figures 350 positive cases including five deaths and 152 recoveries are from Anantnag, 313 including four deaths and 45 recoveries are from Kulgam, 319 including seven deaths and 143 recoveries are from Srinagar, 299 including 76 recoveries and one death are from Kupwara, 272 including 104 recoveries and seven deaths are from Baramulla, 205 including 109 recoveries and three deaths are from Shopian, 161 including 136 recoveries and one death are from Bandipora, 124 including 67 recoveries and two deaths are from Budgam, 37 including 26 recoveries are from Ganderbal and 105 including 13 recoveries are from Pulwama.
In Jammu division, 167 including 41 recoveries and two deaths are from Jammu district, 153 including 16 recoveries are from Ramban, 80 including 27 recoveries are from Kathua, 72 including 26 recoveries and one death are from Udhampur, 48 including 13 recoveries from Samba, 59 with one recovery are from Poonch, 40 including 05 recoveries are from Rajouri, 14 including 03 recoveries area from Reasi, 12 including 03 recoveries are from Kishtwar, 27 including 01 recovery and one death are from Doda.
As per the daily information bulletin 193,145 persons in Jammu and Kashmir are under observation while as 44,389 persons have been kept under home quarantine besides that 1816 persons are in hospital isolation while as 45 persons are under hospital quarantine.
According to the bulletin, 93,222 persons have completed surveillance period and 53,639 persons are under home surveillance besides that so far results of 189,364 samples are available.
Out of 189,364 the number of samples tested negative stands at 186,507 while as 2757 have been tested positive, among them 1816 are active and 1097 persons have recovered and 34 persons have died. (with inputs from KNO)
