Young employee’s death due to fever crates panic in Lolab

Kupwara: Panic gripped Warnu Lolab area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district after a 25 year old government employee died at SMHS Hospital Srinagar on Monday. A rumour spread in the area that the youth died of Covid-19, however, doctors said that body has been detained and samples taken for conducting coronavirus tests.
Locals said that 25 year old Nazir Ahmed Wani, a resident of Warnu Lolab, who was working as Store Keeper in Food Department developed acute fever and he was shifted to SMHS Hospital where he died.
As the news about his death spread in the area, people panicked while rumours added to the trouble of people.
“People are shocked over the death of this young man. They believe he died of Covid-19 and if true, it will be a disaster. Large number of people has come in touch with this Store-Keeper,” said a local Muhammad Shafat.
When contacted, Nodal Officer for Coronavirus, Dr Saleem told that the body of every deceased is being detained after his death. “It is a norm to take samples of any deceased and test those for Coronavirus disease,” he said. (KNT)
