No contingent paid worker working in RDD, says Director RDD

Pulwama: Contingent Paid Workers(CPW) working in Rural development department in Kashmir are without salaries from the last one year due to which they are facing lot of problems.
The workers said that government has not released their salary over the past one year due to which they are facing ‘very tough times’.
They said that one contingent paid worker is working in every block of the Kashmir division and are getting a meager salary.
Rafiq Ahmad, a contingency paid worker who is also head of their association from South Kashmir said that contingent workers are getting a salary in between 1000 to 3000 per month.
He said that the authorities have even failed to provide the workers this meager amount as well.
“We are working 24X7 even during the present pandemic but due to unavailability of salary the workers are in a state of depression,” Rafiq added.
Workers said the delay in release of their salary has pushed them to state of depression particularly the ones who are married and have to support a family.
“Our families are at the verge of starvation, how we can feed our family on a meager salary of Rs 1000 to Rs 3000. Even this amount is not released on time,” they said, and added that the government should consider the situation of CPWs and announce a hike in the monthly remuneration as well.
“Most of the workers are losing the hope of living, self-confidence because we are disappointed with the current situation we are going through,” they said.
The workers requested higher authorities of the department to release their pending salaries so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
Director Rural development department Kashmir division Qazi Sarwar said that we have no contingent paid worker in the department.
On asking about sweepers, he said yes there are sweepers but they aren’t on pay roll of our department and hired by officials at local level who are arranging their salaries as well.
He further added that they have already directed the officials to submit their details so that the same is submitted to higher ups who can take a decision about their appointment besides salary.
