Women seeking Jan Dhan amounts violate social distancing norms
Anantnag: Giving a damn to social distancing and lockdown, scores of women Tuesday morning thronged the Elaquai Dehati Bank branch at Dooru area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district to open Jan Dhan bank account.
Eyewitnesses said that over 100 women were seen outside the bank, and when the bank manager refused to open their accounts and advised them to maintain social distancing, these women staged protest against the Manager.
Pertinently, bank accounts opened under Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) are being opened with Zero balance. An account holder doesn’t need to pay anything for the account.
Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) is National Mission for financial inclusion to ensure access to financial services, namely, banking, savings and deposit accounts, remittance, credit, insurance, pension in an affordable manner.
Witnesses added that these women violated all norms of social distancing and lockdown. “When Bank Manager appealed them to maintain social distance, they raised slogans against him and alleged that he is not opening their accounts,” witnesses said.
Local sources said that there is a rumour that Government of India will deposit money into the people having Jan Dhan accounts.
“You know, how insatiable we are and here is the proof. This rumour right or wrong created ruckus outside the Dooru Bank today,” Irshad Ahmed, a local said.
Before Eid, women in large numbers amid this pandemic gathered outside different banks in different places of Kashmir, with sole objective to open Jan Dhan accounts. (KNT)
