Srinagar: A doctor working as surgeon specialist in Super Speciality SMHS Hospital was allegedly thrashed by the police personnel in Srinagar on Saturday, while on his way to G B Panth Hospital.
Dr. Shabir Ahmad Mir, a surgeon specialist posted at Sheereen Bagh Super Speciality SMHS Hospital Srinagar, while narrating his ordeal alleged that he was stopped by a police party from PS Maisuma, near Budshah Bridge in Srinagar, when he was on his way to G B Panth Hospital to attend a social call and despite disclosing his identity, and clear placard about my position put up on his car, he was badly thrashed by a police constable.
“Even after almost breaking a finger of my right hand, by twisting it, the constable dragged me out of my car and thrashed me badly in full vision of his senior officer,” the doctor said.
“When I approached his senior officer, who was present at the location, he instead of stopping the personnel from thrashing me, directed me to return back to the place, where I came from”, he said.
“Is this the reward, we are getting for exposing ourselves to risk, in the fight against the deadly Virus?”, he said.
“I have submitted a written complaint against the erring policeman with Deputy Commissioner’s office and I demand suspension of the policeman and a strict action against the officer, who stood as a mute spectator to the high handedness of his subordinate”, he added.
Meanwhile, SHO Police Station Miasuma, while confirming his knowledge about the submission of complaint about the matter by the said doctor, with Deputy Commissioner Office Srinagar, said that the police is investigating the complaint. (CNS)
