Anantnag: Instructors who were engaged in Tribal Affairs Department under Tribal Sub-Plan 15 years ago have said that that they are without salary from the last many years.
The instructors said that they are without salary from last many years, thereby making them suffer immensely.
“We have been working in the department from last 15 years on a meager salary of Rs 1500 to 3000 and that too is not being provided on time as the authorities aren’t taking our issues seriously,” they said.
They alleged that the department is hell bent to ruin their lives as they failed to come up with any policy for them and it was difficult for them to sustain this lockdown without salary.
“We don’t have any other source of income as we belong to very poor families and in the prevailing crisis we fear our families will die of starvation because we have nothing to feed them,” they said.
Pertinently, there are around 20 instructors working in different Tribal units in Anantnag and Kulgam districts where they are instructing people of Tribal areas about cutting and tailoring trade.
District social welfare officer, Anantnag Dr. Farhat when contacted that they have already intimated the higher authorities about these instructors, however, there was no positive response from their side as of now.
“Even district magistrate Anantnag has also communicated with authorities of Tribal Affairs Department several times and asked them to release their salaries,” he said, adding that they are helping them in whatever way they can but final call will be taken by the concerned department only.
When contacted, director Tribal Affairs department, Dr Mohammad Saleem said that at present there is no unit functioning in Anantnag or Kulgam district.
Another senior official of the department who wished not to be named said that few instructors were engaged by social welfare department on contractual basis for a year and later their contract was extended for few more years, however, at present department has no contract with instructors.
He said that they might be working on voluntarily basis and for that department cannot pay them. (KNO)
