Soldier injured by sniper firing along LoC, woman killed in PaK
Poonch, May10: An army soldier was injured on Sunday when he was reportedly hit by sniper fire apparently from across the border along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, officials said.
The soldier was manning a forward post in Balakote sector when he was hit by the bullet, they said.
The injured soldier was administered first aid at a local military hospital and later referred to the Army’s Hospital Rajouri for specialized treatment.
A senior army officer confirmed the incident saying that the injured has been hospitalized.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Sunday said that a woman was killed after Indian troopers fired shells from across the border.
Pakistan media reported that Indian troops across the border opened fire and resorted to shelling in the border district of Rawalakot, killing a woman on spot.
Media reports identified the deceased woman as Shauzia Akhtar who sustained a shot in the head and chest as she prepared breakfast in her home along the border.
Cross border attacks are frequent but in recent days attacks have increased with both Pakistan and India reporting soldiers killed in the fighting. On the very first day of the current month, two Indian soldiers Havaldar Gokharan and Nayak Shankar Kumar were killed in Pakistan shelling at Choranda area of Uri along Line of Control in Baramulla. Earlier, three civilians were killed in Taumana Chowkibal area of Kupwara.
