Bandipora–Gurez Road opened for vehicular traffic

Srinagar: The Bandipora-Gurez road has been thrown open for vehicular traffic after remaining closed for four months due to heavy snow accumulation at Razdhan Pass.
The first convey comprising of dozens of heavily loaded vehicles and local commuters was flagged off by the Brig Suresh Kumar Bhambhu, commander 109 Infantry Brigade and CE project BCN Brig Ravi Navet.
Notably, Gurez valley remained cut off from rest of the country due to heavy snow precipitation at Rajdhan pass.
While facilitating the BRO personnel especially the 56 RCC on the occasion, Brig Suresh Kumar said that it was a great moment to connect the Gurez Valley with rest of the country.
He said that all the credit goes to the BRO Personnel who worked hard in adverse condition to make the road through.
“This year the road got closed on 4th January and received a heavy spell of snow fall ranging 20 to 30 feet on the Bandipora Gurez stretch,” he added.
“BRO Personnel started the summer snow clearance of the road well in advance braving all odds and reopen the road in just four months of record time” he said
Chief Engineer Project Beacon Brig Ravi Navet said that the road not only provides connectivity to the Gurez valley but it connects Mushkow valley of Kargil stretching over 160 kms length.
Brig Ravi Navet while referring to the hard ships faced by the BRO personnel during the snow clearance operation said that despite adverse weather conditions the road was initially reopened on April 13 to facilitate the essential commodities to Gurez valley on urgency basis which according to him was a big achievement.
Chief Engineer also felicitated the personnel who worked there for two months to clear the snow accumulated on this stretch touching even 40 feet amid harsh weather conditions.
