Srinagar: Amid lockdown over the deadly COVID-19, civil secretariat re-opened in summer capital Srinagar after a gap of six months on Monday.
G.C. Murmu, who assumed office as the first Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir on October 31 last year, inspected the traditional guard of honour given to him by a police contingent at the civil secretariat lawns in the morning. The civil secretariat re-opened here at a time when more than 700 persons have been infected in by COVID-19 in UT. Taking no risks, the authorities had made elaborate arrangements to prevent spread of the deadly coronavirus.
All the employees who turned up walked through sanitisation tunnels installed by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
“We have installed four sanitisation tunnels in the secretariat,” commissioner SMC Gazzanfar Hussain said.
Before entering the civil secretariat, the Health department also screened the employees with thermal devices to measure their body temperature to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
As already announced by the government, the Darbar will formally open in Srinagar on 15 June as opposed to its scheduled opening in the first week of May.
The Civil Secretariat started functioning from here today with the staff and officers on an “as is where is” basis, i.e., staff will continue working where they are based.
As per arrangement worked out by government, four administrative secretaries have been assigned different tasks for functioning of civil secretariat and monitoring development works in districts in addition to their duties. (KNO)
