Six injured as unexploded shell goes off in Handwara village

Handwara, May 3: Over 6 persons were injured after an explosive substance went off accidentally in Ahgam village of North Kashmir’s Handwara district.

Ahgam is 5 kilometers away from the Chanjmohalla forest area that witnessed a bloody encounter on Saturday evening. Five security personnel including a policeman and a Colonel were killed in the encounter. Two militants also died in the said gunfight.

Eyewitnesses said that a shell lying on the road went off suddenly, resulting in the injuries of 6 persons.

Confirming the incident, a medico at Sub District Hospital said that two persons have sustained injuries in legs and they were shifted to Srinagar hospital while 4 others are being treated at the local hospital.

A police official said that they are ascertaining the facts. (KNT)
