Anantnag emerging as new hotspot in south Kashmir

Anantnag: After Shopian, Anantnag in south Kashmir is emerging as the new hotspot for Covid- 19 as the district recorded 12 more cases on Thursday.
With 12 new cases, the total number of positive cases in Anantnag has reached to 83 while as new one case was reported from Shopian taking toll of total positive cases to 72 in Shopian with 12 recoveries.
In Anantnag, Nowgam and its adjoining villages in Shangus Tehsil has emerged as the COVID-19 hot spot. 63 persons have tested positive from this village alone, officials said.
“The first positive case here was reported on April 14. The patient with no symptoms or travel history contracted the virus from a positive case from Kulgam,” they added.
The person had visited several places and met many people before he was isolated and put in quarantine. Most of those who turned positive later were his contacts, they said.
The samples of a pregnant woman from Kharpora Larnoo village in Kokernag area of the district who died after suffering from twin Intra Uterine Death (IUD) also turned positive for coronavirus.
In Shopian, Hirpora village has witnessed 47 positive cases where the first case was reported on April 08 and on Thursday another person from Hillow area of Imamsahib tested positive.
Officials in Anantnag said that among the new 12 cases from the district eight are from Nowgam, three from Pushroo and one from Hiller Anantnag.
They said that new 12 cases include a 5 year old female child, 32, 42, 55 and 65 year old ladies and 37, 40 and 60 year old males from Nowgam, 10 year old boy, 13 year old girl and 34 year old lady from Pushroo and 70 year old man from Hiller.
Officials from Shopian said that so far 1335 samples have been taken from Shopian district, out of 1335 around 1178 tested negative while as 72 tested positive among them 13 have recovered.
