Lack of facilities: People attempt to escape from quarantine centre in Anantnag

Anantnag: Dozens of people from different areas of Anantnag who have been kept in quarantine at Govt Degree College (boys) Anantnag on Tuesday tried to escape from the facility citing lack of facilities.
Sources said that scores of quarantined persons came out of the centre on Tuesday and protested against the lack of basic facilities at the centre. The people later tried to escape from the facility. However, police cane charged the protestors resulting in minor injuries to few people.
The persons in quarantine have been alleging that there is no facility made available to them.
“What is our fault? We are being treated like criminals. There is no facility for us and when we showed concern, we were beaten to pulp,” they said.
The people alleged that food that is being provided to them is unhygienic and not fit for human consumption.
“Even animals can’t eat the food that is provided to us. The potable water is impure and bathrooms aren’t clean,” said an elderly man.
In a video that they forwarded to several media men, the people can be seen arguing with officials challenging them to consume the food that is being served to the inmates of the quarantine facility.
Meanwhile, a team of officials under the supervision of DDC Anantnag visited the spot and assured the people in quarantine that they will be provided with all the facilities that are needed.
Furthermore as soon as the news about people being cane charged at the quarantine centre in Anantnag, over two dozen persons from Nowgam Shangus village of Anantnag district assembled in Nowgam Chowk and started protesting against district the administration.
The protestors said that their relatives have been put under quarantine and they are not being provided proper facilities.
“We approached the authorities saying that we will be providing the inmates with all the necessities from home, but the authorities disallowed that also,” said a protestor.
However, after the assurance of the officials, the protest concluded peacefully.
