Non-local labouerers refuse to take food in Kulgam

Bandipora: The stranded truck drivers in Sumbal area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district Thursday staged a protest demanding that they should be allowed to proceed towards Leh.
These truck drivers said that their trucks are loaded with goods and other stuff but they are not being allowed to use Srinagar-Leh road.
“We are stuck at Sumo Stand Sumbal from past three days and are not allowed to proceed towards Leh. Our trucks are loaded with goods and some are loaded with perishable items. These perishable items will rot in the trucks if current situation prevails,” the protesting truck drivers said.
“When other trucks are being allowed for Leh, why are we being forced to stay here,” they questioned.
Meanwhile, over 70 non-local labourers stationed at ITI Building Kulgam staged a protest demanding they should be either allowed to work or sent back to home.
Sources said that these labourers who hail from different parts of India refused to take food as a mark of protest.
“We are wasting our time here. We are not being allowed to work and virtually caged in the building,” they said and demanded they should be sent back to their homes. (KNT)
