Fresh snowfall forces closure of Sgr-Leh highway

Ganderbal: The strategic Srinagar-Leh highway was again closed for vehicular movement following fresh spell of snowfall in upper reaches of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district including summer resort Sonamarg on Wednesday.
An official said that Sonamarg and other upper reaches of Ganderbal received fresh spell of snow since early today morning, adding that snowfall was also witnessed in Zojila pass, Gumri, Drass and Meenmarg .
Meanwhile, authorities have closed Srinagar-Leh highway for vehicular movement following fresh snowfall along Zojila Pass.
“No vehicular movement will be allowed on both sides of Srinagar-Leh highway as a precautionary measure,” an official of traffic police department confirmed.
Pertinently, Srinagar-Leh highway was reopened three days before for vehicles carrying essential commodities after it remained closed for near about four months during winters.
