LPG Truck Driver beaten by police, DDC orders probe

Srinagar, Apr 14: Police have initiated inquiry into the alleged beating of an LPG Truck driver in North Kashmir’s Sopore Town.

 The inquiry into the incident was started after DGM, Retail Sales, Indian Oil Corporation, Jammu, Rajiv Yadav sent a mail to Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, alleging that an LPG driver was ruthlessly beaten up by the police in Sopore.

However, police said that before getting directions from the District Development Commissioner Baramulla, they initiated inquiry and are waiting for the outcome of the said inquiry.

Meanwhile, District Development Commissioner Baramulla, GN Itoo has sent a letter to Senior Superintendent of Police, Sopore that reads that he received a complaint through email from Rajiv Yadav, DGM, Retail Sales, Indian Oil Corporation, Jammu, which states that the driver Babu Ram driving LPG Truck (JKO2F-4075) has been beaten by police and even photographs have been attached with the mail in proof of the claim.

“It is a serious matter and needs to be properly enquired and action needs to be taken against those involved,” the letter vide number DCB/PS/455-60 dispatched by District Development Commissioner Baramulla to SSP Sopore reads.

The Deputy Commissioner has advised SSP Sopore to initiate an enquiry into the matter and share the outcome along with action with his office within 2 days.

SSP Sopore Javiad Iqbal said that before receiving the letter from the Deputy Commissioner, they have already initiated inquiry into the incident. “The enquiry is going on and we are waiting for the outcome of the inquiry,” he said. (KNT)
