Guns roar along LoC in north Kashmir
Pakistani troops target locations in Uri, Keran sectors
Srinagar: Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire by resorting to unprovoked firing towards the Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri and Keran sectors of Kashmir on Friday, officials said.
Pakistani troops opened firing towards the Indian positions along the LoC in Uri and Keran sectors around 1 pm, police officials said.
The Army retaliated to the Pakistani firing in equal measure, they added.
There were no reports of any casualties.
The shelling has been reported from Panzgam, Malikpora, TCP, Hafrada and Ferkiyan areas and it has created panic among the residents.
At Panzam, many people left their homes and moved towards safer locations while others have confined themselves to safer locations within their homes, residents and official sources said.
Not only those living nearby, but the shelling also rattled even far off villages with some villagers saying that they are heard the roaring sounds for the first time.
“The shelling is so intense that we are for the first time hearing it,” said Sajjad Ahmad, a resident of Tarathpora, a densely populated village which is very far away from the LoC.
“The houses were shaken with every sound of the shell,” he said.
Official sources said that the heavy “artillery” shelling was started by Pakistan across the LoC and the Indian army responded in equal proportions.
Meanwhile, a defence spokesman in Srinagar said that Pakistani army resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation in Keran Sector (Kupwara).
“Own troops retaliated effectively and strongly. Precision targeting of gun areas, militant launch pads and ammunition dump carried out. Reports of heavy damage on the enemy side,” the spokesman added.
