24 more test positive, JK tally rises to 184

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded its second highest single-day rise in the number of persons testing positive for COVID-19 on Thursday as tally of the infected persons mounted to 184—152 in Kashmir and-2 in Jammu. A total number of 24 positive cases were reported during the day.
Sources said that 24 tests samples turned positive in last 24 hours with 21 confirmed at SKIMS Soura and three at Chest Disease Hospital labs.
Among the fresh cases include 12 contacts of a 52-year-old man from Gund Jahangeer Hajin who become the third victim of the dreaded disease last week while 8 are contacts of a COVID-19 teacher from Tangmarg who lost her father to the pathogen on March 29.
Among the contacts of the Hajin man are his 11 close relatives including his 50-year-old wife and two daughters—one of them 19-years-old while other is 14-years-old besides granddaughter, a 14-year-old girl who is a resident of Amargarh Sopore in neighbouring Baramulla district.
The eight of his other contacts include the deceased’s brother (60), two sisters-in-law—one of the 60-year-old and other 55-year-old, while remaining are 3 nephews—aged 24, 31 and 35 years besides 26-year-old niece and a 22-year-old male relative from Naidkhai area of the district.
Regarding the Tangmarg teacher’s contact, sources said, they include his in-laws: a family of five—48-year-old male, his wife (40), son (12) and two daughters—one aged 14 years and other 20 years—besides 3 others one of them a widow (75) and her son (23) besides a 29-year-old woman, all resident of Sullanda Tangmarg.
The four other cases which surfaced Thursday include that of a 22-year-old from Muqam-e-Shahwali in Kupwara district who had returned from New Delhi on March 20. He was quarantined only two days ago, the sources said.
Deputy Commissioner Kupwara said that the youth has history of travel to Delhi and has been shifted to COVID Hospital Kupwara along with immediate contacts.
“The patient is asymptomatic and is doing fine,” he said.
The three other cases include that of a woman from Tengpora Srinagar whose sample was taken at SMHS and tested at CD hospital lab while two others are residents of south Kashmir’s Anantnag and Kulgam districts respectively.
Regarding Kulgam case, they said that he is a 24-year-old resident of Sopat area and he happened to be one of the contacts of the first COVID-19 victim, the 67-year-old man from Hyderpora Srinagar.
Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Showkat Aijaz Bhat said that his test sample was taken on April 6 after he remained in quarantine for more than a fortnight. The last case is a 70-year-old from Wangund Anantnag and he had been part of Tabligi Jamaat, they added.
With these fresh cases, the number of COVID-19 patients in J&K has gone upto 184. Among them, 152 are in Kashmir and 32 in Jammu. While six patients in J&K—one in Kashmir and 3 in Jammu—have been discharged, four others— one from Udhampur and three from the Valley have died after contracting the virus.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the admin said that till date 43798 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance which include 8157 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 478 in Hospital Quarantine, 174 in hospital isolation and 25975 under home surveillance. Besides, 9010 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period.
The Bulletin said that till date test report of 2649 samples has been received out of which 2465 are negative, and 184 as positive.
The bulletin urged the general public to stay indoors, strictly implement social distancing measures, disclose recent travel history to COVID-19 affected countries and report any contact with positive cases voluntarily.
The bulletin stressed on people to take care of their bodies during home stay by ensuring to stay hydrated, eating balanced diet and resting well.
People are reiterated to use Aarogya Setu mobile application developed by Government of India that uses Bluetooth and GPS to inform you when you might possibly be at risk of exposure. The users of the app are empowered with better information on the potential risk of infection, self- assessment tools and contextual advice. The app can be downloaded for Android on Google Play and iOS on Apple App Store.
General public is advised to avoid unnecessary visit to hospitals, in case anyone develops fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, seek medical advice promptly. People should call on Covid-19 helpline No.s so that they can be provided correct medical advice and directed to the right health facility, if needed.
In case of any emergency people can avail free ambulance services 24×7 at their door steps by calling on toll free No. 108. Pregnant women and sick infants can avail free ambulance services by dialling toll free No. 102.
In addition, a toll free national helpline number 1075. J&K Covid-19 Helpline No.s 0191- 2549676 (UT level Cell), 0191-2520982, 0191-2674444, 0191-2674115 (For Jammu Division), 0194-2440283 & 0194-2430581(For Kashmir Division) are available for support, guidance, and response to health related queries on Novel Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19).
With regard to personal hygiene, the bulletin advised on frequent hand washing with soap and water and to observe, coughing and sneezing etiquettes.
Public is advised to strictly follow the advisories issued by the Government from time to time and are urged to rely only on the information released by the government in this regard through the daily media bulletin to print and electronic media.
