Srinagar: Amid threat of Coronovirus spread, inmates at a quarantine centre in NIT Nigeen, Srinagar are being let down, as government is looking ahead to push in as many suspects as possible there.
Contrary to the government claims, the suspects at NIT Nigeen are given unhygienic food for consumption. The inmates alleged that there are no basic facilities available which are crucial for protection against the Coronovirus, like sanitizers and masks.
Sahil Zargar, who is quarantined at NIT said he was doing good at home but was picked up by the authorities on suspicion of being a contact of a Tableegi Jamaat positive covid-19 patient.
He said he is in the quarantine center with his brother from last 16 days without any strong reason. “I am quite well but I don’t understand why we were being kept in a quarantine centre. I urge the government to allow us to go home.”
Echoing the views of fellow inmates, Ishfaq Ahmad said, “I’m more concerned about my mental health than the virus itself, as we suspect each other of this virus, which only feeds anxiety.”
Another inmate alleged that around 50 people quarantined in the centre share a single washroom. The inmates had also took to social media to share the problem being faced by them at the centre. They have appealed the administrators to either send them back to their homes or make basic facilities available here.
“Who will be ready to sit here in this pathetic quarantine centre. Our heath has deteriorated even more since we were put here. Nobody listens our woes”, said an inmate in a video which was shared on social media.
Following the spike in coronavirus cases in Kashmir, like other parts of Kashmir district administration Srinagar established dozens of quarantine centres for the citizens arriving from abroad or other parts of the country.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Choudary didn’t respond to repeated calls from this reporter for his comments. (KNO)
