Fake hand sanitizer unit busted in Sopore

Sopore, Apr 1: Amid coronavirus scare, authorities in Kashmir are battling with fake hand sanitizers promising to help protect against the virus.

The officials of drug department have sealed an industrial unit ‘U safe zone’, industries at industrial estate Sopore on Tuesday evening, for allegedly manufacturing hand sanitizer without holding a license for making such product.

On specific information Assistant Drug Controller Baramulla alonwith his team raided at industrial estate Sopore where an industrial unit was found to manufacture illegally hand sanitizers with name tag as ‘Activa saffy’ hand sanitizer without having a licence for that. He added that the unit is manufacturing several other products since years but has no valid licence to manufacture hand sanitizer.

Assistant drug controller further said that the owner of unit ‘U safe zone’ has priced the sanitizer three times more than mandated under the essential commodities act. Which government of India has recently notified.

“We are on a look out for the stock already supplied to the market,” said the Assistant drug controller.
