BDC Chairman ‘abuses, manhandles’ cop, arrested

Handwara: Block Development Chairman, Vilgam in north Kashmir is in police lockup from past three days while several BDC’s are up in arms against police, mulling to stage a protest outside DDC office Kupwara against what they call ‘arbitrary’ arrest.
Sources said few days back BDC Vilgam in Handwars town, Muhammad Yasin Sheikh allegedly violated government orders and was roaming freely while at Dolipora, he allegedly manhandled a cop who asked him to stay indoors. After the scuffle, police detained the said BDC who is affiliated with Sajad Lone led People’s Conference (PC).
Sources said that after his arrest, BDC Chairman Langate threatened that as a mark of protest the other BDC Chairpersons may resign stating police action to detain BDC Chairman as ‘humiliation’ of the elected representatives.
When contacted, Station House Officer, Police Station, Vilgam, Muhammad Suliaman said that a formal FIR vide number 17/2020 under section 188, 353, 506 has been registered against the BDC Chairman Vilagam. He added that the said person abused and manhandled a policeman on duty. (KNT)
