Pulwama: Even though the spring season has made its presence felt in Kashmir, people across south Kashmir resent the government’s move of providing power supply according to the winter schedule.
Locals from Pulwama town and it’s adjacent areas said that their area is getting power supply as per the winter schedule which was announced and implemented in 1st week of November last year.
“Winter is over but our power woes continue. We are still getting the power supply according to the winter schedule that was announced several months back,” said Ghulam Mohiuddin, a local resident.
Residents of other areas of South Kashmir said that that unscheduled and frequent power cuts still persist in the entire region despite the arrival of summer season.
“Since November snowfall, the power development department has failed to ensure proper power supply as per their curtailment schedule which affects the residents quite badly,” Mohammad Yousuf, a resident of Imamsahib area of Shopian, said.
Meanwhile, locals from Anantnag said that power supply is snapped after every one or two hours in their area.
“Our area reels under darkness in the evening. Despite arrival of spring season and considerable improvement in weather, the power supply is snapped as per winter schedule and pesky power cuts are still prevalent” Nadeem Ahmad, a local resident of Dialgam area of Anantnag, said.
Similarly residents of Kulgam town and its adjacent areas have alleged that after every two hours, the area witnesses power cuts that too for hours together.
“We took up the issue with authorities who are assuring us of improvement in the pwer schedule, but on ground nothing happens,” said Danish Ahmad, a Kulgam resident.
When contacted, Superintendent Engineer, PDD South circle, G R Khanday said that the issue has been taken up.
“Already some improvement has been made vis-à-vis the power supply in the south Kashmir region. WE are still working on it and from April month the area will see further improvement in the power supply,” he added.
