EMRC asks students to switch to digital education platform

Srinagar: In view of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) scare and advisories issued by various Government agencies, the University of Kashmir on Thursday announced a series of preventive measures including suspension of all administrative and academic activities upto March, 28, 2020.
In this connection an order No : L(COVID-Closure)/REG/KU/20 dated :19/03/2020 issued by Registrar KU Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir reads “All administrative and academic activities across campuses of University shall remain suspended initially upto 28th March, 2020. However, employees associated with essential services including electricity, water works, sanitation & hygiene, landscape maintenance, health centre and Proctorial/Watch & Ward wing shall continue to report to their respective duties.”
The order further reads “In view of the closure of Financial year 2019-20 the employees associated with the Accounts/Finance Wing including office of the Dean Research of the University shall also continue to report to their duties.”
According to the order all interviews and M.Phil/Ph.D Viva Voce Examinations scheduled till 31st March, 2020 are postponed.
However it adds “wherever the postponement of M.Phil/Ph.D Viva Voce examinations is unavoidable, same may be conducted through Skype and no outside expert be invited to the University upto March 31st 2020.”
Moreover, the order clarifies that “all employees however shall ensure that they are accessible through their Mobile phones and shall provide home inputs/report to their duties as and when called for.”
Meanwhile, in the academic interest of the candidates , the date for submission of application forms for PG and BA-LLB programs session-2020 invited under admission No: F(PG Admission-20) DACE/KU/20 dated 10.03.2010 has been extended upto and including April,07,2020.
According to a notification issued by Assistant Registrar Directorate of Admissions and Competitive Examinations KU the last date of submission of online application forms as well as the last date of submission of hard copy of application forms in respect of candidates applying under any reserved category has been extended upto 07-04-2020 (working days only).
Earlier on Wednesday in a statement issued by the varsity all examinations both at PG & UG level including Regular/Private/Backlog/Fresh private/Division improvement/Mercy chance and internal assessment which were scheduled to be held upto and including March, 31, 2020 were postponed. The University has already ordered suspension of class work across all its campuses upto March 31, 2020.
Meanwhile, in the academic interest of the students Educational Multi Media Research Centre University of Kashmir (EMRC) KU has suggested the students that they can still study from the safety of their homes.
In a statement issued by Director EMRC KU Dr Shahid Rasool “We urge the students to reach on the digital education platform being provided by the Consortium for Educational Communication in collaboration with Educational Multimedia Research Centres ((EMRC) KU.”
“We fully support the initiatives being taken by the Government of India in fighting the COVID-19. As a precautionary measure classes have been suspended in most of the educational institutions in India. Nevertheless, the students can still study from the safety of their homes. For this we urge them to reach on the digital education platform being provided by the Consortium for Educational Communication in collaboration with Educational Multimedia Research Centres ((EMRC),” said Dr Shahid Rasool Director EMRC KU.
He added while being at home the students could connect with the CEC digital education platforms for the courseware available as below:
E-content courseware in 87 undergraduate subjects available on CEC website.
11 subject based SWAYAM Prabha DTH channels available on DD free dish, Dish TV and Reliance Jio mobile App. These channels are providing curriculum based educational programs including live lectures in various Higher education subjects which include Humanities, Science, Management, Professional courses, Computer science and Indian and classical music.
He said these channels are free to air and can also be accessed through the cable operator.
