They said that these areas are suffering from a shortage of drinking water for the past several days.
The protestors blamed the authorities of public health engineering (PHE) department for not being able to provide adequate water supply to these areas despite a huge chunk of population living in these areas.
“Despite repeated requests to the concerned authorities, we all are being forced to use contaminated water from the nearby rivers and wells,” said Javid Ahmad Teli, a resident of Chankhan Sopore.
He said they have approached the authorities several times but no action has been taken so far in this matter.
The protestors later appealed the higher authorities and the district administration to look into the issue and put an end to their woes.
When contacted an official in PHE department Sopore said that regular water supply was hit in some localities due to some damage caused to the pipelines supplying potable water to these areas.
He said that soon water supply will be restored to the areas after carrying out necessary repairs of the damaged pipelines.
