Police recovers body of newborn in Kupwara village

Kupwara: Body of a male newborn baby was found abandoned near a forest area of Vilgam here in this north Kashmir district, officials said on Monday. This is the second male body of a newborn found in the area—Hafrada Shaldoora Vilgam—in as many as four days.
They said that some passersby, who visit the forest for collection of morels and firewood, spotted the abandoned body and informed the police later.
The body was later retrieved and after performing medico legal formalities, it was buried with the help of local Auqaf, they said.
Station House Officer (SHO) Vilgam Mohammad Suleman said that a case (FIR No. 11/2020) under IPC section 315 (act done with an intent to prevent child being born alive or cause it to die after birth) and 318 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body) has been registered against unidentified people and investigations are underway.
“On March 12 we found one male newborn body in forest compartment no.10 and today in the same forest area, compartment number 7 at Haprada area of Shaldoora, we found another male body,” he said, adding, “investigations are underway.” (GNS)
