Cylinder blast at Budgam: Hundreds attend funeral of deceased youth

Budgam: Amid sobs, thousands of people on Friday night attended the funeral prayer of the youth who was charred to death while rescuing the family who were trapped in the blaze that broke out in a residential house in Wadwan village in Budgam.
Notably, a youth identified as Umar Abdullah Malik, was charred to death while as seven others suffered injuries as a house gutted completely due to gas cylinder explosion at Wadwan area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Emotional scenes were, however, witnessed where the funeral prayers of the deceased was held on late Friday late evening.
An eyewitness said that scores of men and women wept bitterly as the body was being carried towards its final resting place. “Women and children especially his classmates showered toffees and flowers on Umar’s coffin,” eye witnesses said.
An eyewitness said that another youth Showkat Ahmad Bhat who went close to the fire ridden house and tried to save family members was seriously injured and is currently battling for life at Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura.
While seven others managed to come out with burn injuries, but 25-year-old Umar could not manage to run outside resulting in serious burn injuries to him and later he died on spot.
Meanwhile Tehsidar Narbal said that they have visited the spot and the district administration Budgam has released Rs five thousands compensation from Red Cross funds earlier to the family whose house was damaged and would provide compensation soon to the deceased family under norms.
A police officer when, contacted said that, the investigation into the incident has been launched. (KNO)
